Welcome to Saint Anne Shrine

Located in the picturesque small town of Fiskdale (Sturbridge), Massachusetts, Saint Anne Shrine is a sanctuary of peace and tranquility.  It is situated on 35 acres of natural woodland, and is a place of respite, comfort, and spiritual refreshment.  The Shrine is located within the Diocese of Worcester and is staffed by the Augustinians of the Assumption.  Assumptionists

In the 125th anniversary year, we think you might be interested in this chronology:

1879:    Msgr. Elzear Brochu, pastor of Notre Dame parish in Southbridge, promises Saint Anne to propagate her devotion if she would cure him.

1883:    Msgr. Brochu erects Saint Anne Church for the French speaking Catholics of Fiskdale

1883:    Fr. John Kremmin of Southbridge erects Saint Patrick Church for the English speaking and Irish Catholics of Fiskdale

1886:   Fr. Jules Gratton is named first pastor of both churches

1887:    Mrs. J. B. Houde is cured of dropsy at Saint Anne

1888:    First procession in thanksgiving to Saint Anne for the cure of Mrs. Houde

1893:    Saint Anne Church acquires authentic relic of Saint Anne

1913:    Mrs. Houde dies at the foot of Saint Anne statue where she had been cured 25 years earlier

1916:    Religious article store erected by Fr. Guillet

1917:    Construction of first outdoor chapel

1922:    Sacred Heart statue added

1923:    Calvary and Scala Sancta added

1927:    Shrine to Saint Anne added at foot of Holy Stairs

1939:    Bronze outdoor Way of the Cross added to hillside

1949:    Renovation and enlargement of Saint Anne Church and addition of outdoor votive shrine to Saint Anne

1953:    Statue of Our Lady of Fatima added

1954:    Picnic area developed

1956:    Construction of outdoor pavilion and addition of Lourdes grotto

1962:    Renovation and dedication by Bishop Bernard Flanagan of Holy Stairs

1972:    Transporting of Saint Patrick Church from its original site on Main Street to Saint Anne property

1977:    Dedication of new parish Center

1983:    Interior remodeling of Saint Anne Church
